Don Griffin

Founder

Griffin Insurance Agency was founded in the early 1980s by Don Griffin and his wife, Penny, with a simple dream and an unwavering work ethic. Starting from the ground up with no established client base, Don and Penny relied on determination, integrity, and a commitment to serving others to build what would become a trusted local agency. Their early years were defined by long hours, personal sacrifice, and a hands-on approach to every client relationship.

Throughout their journey, Don and Penny’s strong Christian faith served as a guiding influence in both life and business. Their values of honesty, stewardship, and service to others helped shape the way they treated clients, employees, and the community. As an independent agency owner, Don worked tirelessly to place all types of insurance—including personal, commercial, life, and health coverage—doing whatever was necessary to grow the agency.

Today, at 83 years old, Don still comes into the office and remains actively involved in the agency he helped build. He continues to offer guidance and leadership as he watches his son and grandson carry Griffin Insurance Agency into its next chapter. The legacy Don and Penny established—rooted in faith, hard work, and integrity—continues to shape the future of the agency for generations to come.

Jonathan Griffin

President & Owner

Jonathan Griffin is the President and Owner of Griffin Insurance Agency and represents the second generation of leadership within the family business. Jonathan began learning the insurance industry at the young age of 16, spending afternoons in the office after school and gaining hands-on experience from the ground up. It was during these early years that he developed a passion for the business and a clear vision for its future. At just 18 years old, Jonathan obtained his Property and Casualty insurance license, formally beginning his professional career.

After completing two years at South Georgia College in Douglas, Jonathan moved to Statesboro to attend Georgia Southern University, where he graduated while also working with Snap Lewis Insurance. Following his graduation in 1999, Jonathan returned to Douglas to begin his full-time career at Griffin Insurance Agency. He quickly focused on expanding the agency beyond a primarily personal lines operation into a strong commercial lines agency. Today, Griffin Insurance maintains a well-balanced portfolio that includes personal insurance, commercial coverage, and farm insurance.

In 2012, Jonathan earned his CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designation, further strengthening his expertise and commitment to professional excellence. Under his leadership, the agency has experienced consistent annual growth and increased profitability. Jonathan remains focused on building long-term client relationships, developing the next generation of leadership, and carrying forward the values of integrity, service, and faith that have defined Griffin Insurance Agency since its founding.

Renee Mizell

Commercial Lines Account Manager

Renee Mizell is the longest-tenured employee at Griffin Insurance Agency, having been a valued member of the team since 2003. With over two decades of experience, Renee plays a vital role in the agency by handling commercial lines service and rating. Her deep knowledge of commercial insurance and attention to detail help ensure that clients receive accurate coverage options and dependable support.

As a wife, mother, and grandmother, Renee enjoys spending her time outside the office with her husband, Damon, and helping care for her grandchildren. Her commitment to family mirrors the care and dedication she brings to her work each day. Renee’s experience, professionalism, and prompt service make her a trusted resource for both clients and colleagues, and she remains an essential part of the Griffin Insurance Agency team.

Alfred Penn

Personal Lines & Life Insurance Specialist

Alfred Penn brings years of experience in the life and health insurance industry to Griffin Insurance Agency. After working with another firm earlier in his career, Alfred joined the Griffin Insurance team in 2013 and has since become a key leader in personal lines and life insurance sales and service. His background allows him to provide thoughtful guidance and tailored solutions for a wide range of clients.

Working within an independent agency enables Alfred to collaborate daily with multiple insurance carriers, giving him the flexibility to find the best coverage options for each customer’s unique needs. Alfred is known for his genuine love of people and his ability to build lasting relationships. Whether working with new clients or assisting long-time customers, he takes pride in providing personal attention, clear communication, and dependable service.

Nat Griffin

Personal Lines & Farm Insurance Agent

Nat Griffin represents the third generation of the Griffin family at Griffin Insurance Agency. A graduate of Coffee High School in 2022, Nat joined the agency immediately after graduation to begin building his career in the insurance industry. He obtained his Property and Casualty insurance license at just 18 years old and has since been working primarily in personal lines insurance.

In 2024, Nat began carving out a niche in the farm and agricultural insurance sector, which has quickly become one of the agency’s fastest-growing segments with a strong focus on long-term growth and profitability. Nat is currently working toward his CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designation, which will further enhance his knowledge and ability to serve clients with confidence and expertise.

Outside of the office, Nat enjoys playing golf and spending time with his chocolate lab, Ace. His strong work ethic, commitment to professional development, and passion for serving clients reflect the values that have defined Griffin Insurance Agency for generations.

Jackie Mercer

Claims Support Representative 

Jackie Mercer joined Griffin Insurance Agency in 2025 and plays an important support role for both personal and commercial lines. She works closely with all of the agency’s agents,

providing the assistance and coordination needed to deliver prompt, accurate, and professional service to our clients.

In 2026, Jackie stepped into the role of Claims Support Representative, where she works directly with customers and insurance adjusters to help bring claims to a timely and fair resolution. Her attention to detail, compassion, and dedication to service help guide clients through what can often be a stressful process.

Outside of the office, Jackie and her husband, Jay, attend Covenant Church and are raising three children together. In her free time, Jackie enjoys being with her family—whether that’s cheering from the sidelines at a ball field or attending a dance recital.
